Many thanks to Avon Valley School for hosting and to Warwick Books for supporting this event. We ask students to read these six books and then vote for their favourite.
The majority of Warwickshire's secondary schools participate each year in the book award, seeing it as a terrific opportunity for pupils to enjoy reading and discussion together.
The Year 9 Book Award offers an opportunity to introduce a new range of authors and texts to the students and we aim for the students to get a real sense of ownership of the process by selecting the shortlist, offering their opinions and perspectives on the books and then casting the final vote.
During the process we also asked the students to enter three competitions about the nominated books.
At this event THEY DECIDE which 4 books will make the W9BA shortlist!
The pupils then got to meet their favourite authors and have their books signed. The shortlist, taken from books first published in the preceding calendar year, comprised by Ross Welford. We were delighted that 3 of the 4 shortlisted authors were able to join us at the event. Thanks to all those who took part and congratulations to Hope and Sam at The Polesworth School and Grace at Myton School for their winning entries for Competition 1, Charlotte at Exhall Grange School for her alternative ending to Ink for Competition 2, and Cole, Rayn and Sullivan at Exhall Grange School for their video championing The Yellow Room for Competition 3.Students at the Longlist Speed Dating event from The Polesworth School and Myton School in Warwick If you would like more information about the Warwickshire Year 9 Book Award and would be interested in signing up for any of our book award schemes please do get in touch.
